Hey Reptile

from I by Animal Bones

/

lyrics

the poet walks down
the road alone as always
his notebook of words
is lost in crowded hallways
all of his work is now gone and he lets out a sigh

if old words expire
i spoke about a writer
on some lonely street
jotted down that his feet were tired
he carefully walked on his tight rope wire

"hey reptile it's been a while
can you hand a scale to me
sonata sail i left my tale
in the arpeggiating sea"

a girl from the hallway
finds the novel open
and she reads every letter
until the words are broken
she knows she can fix it she writes them all down from her mind

"hey reptile it's been
can you hand it to my friend
im not sure how to begin
i'm not sure how to end"
